go with either a 55 or a 75 cichlids no matter where they are from they all get good sized i personaly like africans they are beutifuly colored and alot of them like to school my favorite is the frontosa but they get up to 15 inches well hope this helps

Bigger the tank the better for almost any cichlids! I like americans they are less colorful than Africans and most grow much lager aswell check out some photos and see which you like best and come back for some more info.

just a couple suggestions:most cichlids are teritorial and will claim and fight to keep the territory they claim. So make sure you provide caves (especially for africans but alot of american cichlids like cave hideouts also. the longer the tank the better it provides more room between territories the taller tanks are more for plants and schooling fish. Also get you cichlids young and let them mature in your tank. the more mature fish is usually more agressive. caution:africans are beautiful but if you dont keep them properly you can have some dead africans(due to aggresion ) i kept psuedeo/melachromis auratus an Malawi african very beautiful and the mature males change colors so you can tell sexes apart. good luck let us know on what you decide

I agree I love the Rift Lake africans, especially ones from Lake Malawi. I agree get the largest tank possible, 75 gallons would be best, but 55 could work as well.

Have a look at http://www.malawimayhem.com if you want to see what these guys look like. :)

Having a look at your local pet store will help as well, so you can see what these guys look like in real life (but remember a lot of the time juvinile fish will look dull and boring, they sometimes dont get thier colors until they mature).

Whatever you do, post here your ideas and we can help you. :)

~*LuvMyKribs*~ where can i get tanks i live in canada too , i want a complete setup . dont know where do go?

if you are interested in larger cichlids, i have festae cichlids. they are only about an inch long but will grow to be rather large. as they mature they will become very colorful. they are fish that i have hatched from my breeding pair. to give you an idea of the size that they will get, my male is 14"+ and the female is 9". there are only about 20 juveniles left so get them while they last. if you dont make it in time, they will breed again but they wont be this size for about 6 months
