I'm going to provide as much information as possbile.

Tank 55 Gallons (grow out)
Filtration: 2 EMP 280's with cell pore pads in back for additional bio
Temp 78 F
Inhabitants: Male GT 6" Male Texas 4.5" Salvini 4" 3- Giant Danios 2.5"

The GT is the dominant Fish, but not overly aggresive towards others, the Texas and Salvini constantly joust for pecking order.

Diet: Staple Omega One pellets, market Shrimp on occassion, plakton on occassion, Cichlid Excel occassionally, and freeze dried meal worms added recentley to the diet

Water parameters: PH 7.2 0 nitrite/Ammonia, 20-30 Nitrate, water changes weekly 30-35 %

Issue:

In the past week I've noticed the GT not as readily interested in eating, and hasn't been eating the volume it normally does. I've also noticed him clamping his dorsal a little bit more then normal, usually it's fully fanned and showing off. Then I saw a long strand of whitish/clear feces for a couple days in a row, however, I did just start feeding meal worms about a week or so ago, figured it might have something to do with that. The GT also seems to be breathing a little harder them normal. He still does accept pellets, and the last couple of days seems like he's begging a little more for them, although doesn't eat the same quantity as he used to (12 med. a day normally). I added the 3 Giant Dans as dithers a little over 2 weeks ago to hope suppress the aggression between the Texas and Salvini...

I ended up putting him in a 15G quarintine tank and am treating with Furan-2, because I'm suspecting early stages of dropsy. I did notice his feces looked normal in the quarantine tank. Also have tried to feed him anti-parasitic Jungle pellets but he doesn't care for them. I also have on hand a medication called Aquazole, which is 50% Metronidazole, but haven't attmepted treatment with this product....

Any suggestions or diagnosis would be of great help... Thx in advance

if it's stingy poo... I would prolly say internal parasite, least thats what I've been told before. that would add to lethargy etc, I would also do a big water change along the lines of 60-70% that also seems to help, there's a anti parasitic gell you can coat his/her normal food in if he wont eat the medicated food, I dont know what it's called but you may give that a try too.

Check the link below, in particlular, the last symptom on the page. Sounds like you are on the right track with the medication Metronidozole. The trouble breathing bothers me a bit. It may be from being stressed, as is the fin clamping.

While treating, you may want to back off from regular food for a couple of days to help clear out the intestinal tract. Be sure to feed a varied diet afterward and include veggies, including lettuce and green peas for your omnivore. Sounds like the meal worms are off the menu for awhile.

Sage advice, just what I Was thinking, guess I just wanted to be reaffirmed....

The only thing about using Metro is that it really only works if the fish ingests it.

Your GT will have to eat it for it to have any affect.

Those products that use metro by placing it into the tank water are snakeoil.

Your best bet is to find some metro tablets and crush them into a powder and mix it in a food that the fish will eat. This way your guaranteed that it is getting at least some of the med into its system.

Just putting it into the water won't work.

Good Luck.

Seems to really be doing well using Furan-2 (day 4) did water change yesterday. Looks like he expelled some whitish fecal matter, but also brown, so not sure what the deal is. I think he's going to be fine, I'm going to try to feed him some pellets soak in Metro....
