Okay, so here's the background info: A couple weeks ago, one of my two panda cories passed away while I was away for the weekend, for no apparent reason. I watched the tank carefully, looking for any other signs of stress, but everything remained pretty normal. I decided to call the mysterious cory death a fluke, and went out a couple nights ago to buy a replacement.

I went to the Big Al's store down the road, and asked one of the guys to go get me a panda cory. He went off while I picked through driftwood, and brought back a bag with a fish inside that, at the time, looked to me to be just what I asked for. I forked over my cash, and brought the fish home.

The problem is this: Now that the two of them are in the same tank side by side, I've noticed that the new cory is easily twice the size of the older one. This has me perplexed.

Now, I'm pretty sure that there's a another kind of cory that has the same markings as a panda, but grows to a larger adult size. My questions are: What is the name of this other, larger cory cat, if it does indeed exist? And is there any sure-fire way to tell if my new fish is a specimen of the larger species, or just a really big panda cory?

well, the females are a bit larger (like two times sometimes) than the males. They are sometimes rounder but not always. OR you can have an Adolfo's Cory.... which is a little like the panda except that it has the stripe on the back along with the tell-tale panda spots.

Adolfo's cory! That's what they're called!

Groovy, thanks for the fast help. I think I just have a lady panda cory-- I don't see any stripes on her back, and she does look like a plumper, rounder version of Mr. Panda. *phew!* Saves me a trip back to the fish store. :)

Thanks again. ^_^
