I have a 210g stocked with the following:
SF eel
Panther Grouper...until he stops behaving himself
Banana Wrasse
Lo
Yellow Tang
Cowfish
Niger
Cleaner Wrasse..LFS in the city where my hubby works (hubby was supposed to but a cleaner goby) sold him as a neon goby..have had him 8 months...LFS no longer on list of Place to Buy things
Finally...the meanest Tomato Clown gracing God's green earth.
I tried introducing a harlequin tusk and that was a huge mistake...the clown beat the snot out of him and he now is living in my 55g sump for the time being. Minus 3/4's of his tail fin.

My question is this...after the fiasco with the tusk, is there a better way to introduce a new fish? I even tried egg crate to section off part of the tank. I always wanted to do a large angel but after this I am gun shy. The clown left the niger and the tang alone when they came in. Would it leave an angel alone? Thanks so much for any and all help !!

try messing up the rockwork to make the fish define new territories that should lessen agression as all the fish now have to find a new terr, the new fish can also stake a claim.

p.s. just me, but i would put the clown in the sump not the tusk

I wish I could. I can't catch the freaking thing ! I bought him for $10 from my LFS due to the fact he was mean and nobody would buy him. BUT..he has been a model citizen until now. I have tried the 2 liter bottle trick with no luck and I don't have a corral. Any suggestions on catching him?

2 liter bottle trick? haven't heard that one.
when he runs does he run into the rocks or a cave or does he just run around the tank?
you could put a little food in the net or use your hand to scare him towards then net than finish him off.

I'd be nervous about the yellow tang as well. I added a juvenile imperator after my yellow tang and he bullied him after lights went out every night.

Catching the clown- maybe as soon as you add food in you can come up from behind? Or right after the lights come on the morning when some of the fish are still a little "dazed?"

Unfortunately he runs around the tank at top speed. I have about 150lbs of LR in there so taking it out is not an option.
The 2 liter bottle trick is a way to catch damsels. ( probably other fish but damsels were what I used it for ) Cut the bottle in 2 about 1/4 way down from the top. Cut the spout off large enough to let a fish get in and invert it into the bottom part. Kinda like this |\/| I have caught fish with it before but this clown is a little too smart to fall for such a trick. IF I can catch him I will put him in the sump and reintroduce the tusk. Then after awhile I will sling the clown back in. I talk like this is going to happen..lol.
I'll try the food strategy tonight and the morning one tomorrow. I used to have a LTA that my clown was paired with but it died for no reason I could come up with. It would have been too easy to catch him then. He stayed on that LTA like he was glued to it.
One thing I thought of was to buy a large net like the minnow nets you can get at bait shops. I might end up catching most of my fish at once but the clown should be in it too. Has anyone ever used a big net like that?

i've used bigger nets that i probably should have, it's helps to block escape routes but in a tank that big i imagine that would have to be a very large net
