Help with Lighting

I bought the Satellite with 2x65w for $97.99. If you are correct, then thatpetplace has misinformation on that product. This is what it says:

So they have given the wrong info for this lighting system?

I'm really frustrated now.


Puffer Poison, I do not know anything about doing the lighting myself. I wish I could though. Thanks for the idea though. I may be sending the Satelite back. They should make their info clear on their products.

Shoot them an email. Those bulbs are 1000*K Daylight/460 nanometer actinic. These lights are made for reef tanks and are not suitable for plants. Tell them plants need light in the 5700*-6700*K range and their advertising is wrong.

As for the switches, no, they only have one switch. This is their web site:

Scroll down to Model 1006 and look under the "Independent Control" column. It says "N/A" -- Not Available.


The moonlights will not be on a switch. They have a transformer than needs to be plugged in. I have mine on a timer.

They are great lights, don't get it wrong. I have three Orbits and replaced the lights on all of them. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

I called them and they said they would change the info to only one switch. I told them what you said about the 10,000 not being good for plants, but they insisted they were. I'm going to keep the lighting system since you say it is a good one. I'll get the other 6,500's later. Thanks again for your help.

I hate that crap. If you want, you can PM me with the details of your conversation -- who you talked to, what your real name is -- and I'll email the crap out of them. Wouldn't be the first time I went toe to toe with this type of garbage. I'll bash them with facts until they hollar "uncle" and rescind that comment.

Way to go Roan Art!

You can find those Current USA lighting strips at several on-line merchants, and the product description is the same.

It is too bad that they don't seem to sell freshwater bulbs with their lighting strips! I'm looking for affordable 6700K lighting myself (would be nice to find one with an LED moonlight, too). The best thing I can find for $100 or less that comes with the 6700K bulb is the Coralife Freshwater Aqualight- 36" Power Compact Light - 96W. It has a single 6700K bulb, but alas, no LED moonlight. Not sure if the ballast is electronic (PREFERRED) or magnetic (less bulb life and runs hotter).
