Hi, I just bought a remora by aquaclear protein skimmer, and hooked it up last nite. This morning there was a bout 3 inches tall of foam overflow on top. Is this normal for a new skimmer/ what should I do? Also, the water livel inside the skimmer almost an inch from the top, pretty much level with the tube inside the skimmer. Is this normal as well?

Didn't it come with break-in instructions?

My coralife needed to be set to about 60% open for 2 days before it wouldn't just spew out the top end.

not much i terms of break in instructions for overflow. What do you mean by 60% open?

My skimmer has an adjustment on the intake tube, above the pump, where i can cut down on the flow into the skimmer. I turned it down to about 60% open (so the skimmer wasn't overflowing) until it broke in, and then was able to open it up the rest of the way.

ahh.. i see, i dont know whether mine has that or not, but im on the right track now, thanx!

there should be some sort of an adjustable flow rate. try to find this and turn it down. sounds like its pumping a little too much.

The "break in" period can be a few days on some skimmers. Mine took 3 days, I was all bummed about it not working right. then boom. its working great!

Read the manual and tweak it. You'll get it!

P.S. I have to adjust my daily to achieve the best results. Just a little tweak here and there.
