Acualy that picture was taken befor i started cycling... what your seeing is alittle wet carpet under the sump. The foam on the pump came with the pump and i've left it there to keep anything which might cause the pump problems. I worry about sand making it to the impeller. Yes i rinse it weekly with the bonded filter pad and the sponge in the back of the overflow box.
