help with new 125 gallon setup

well i was at the pet store today and they had a nice set up with 3 power heads and a aquaclear 500. it was remarkably clean. the tank :troll: had a school of bala sharks and plecos.
i would like to know more about sumps.
thank ya'll for your help again,...feel free to make suggestions.
i also saw some texas chclid and some jags...
anyone know some info on those two.
i could look at websites. but i think people that keep them are much more reliable..

Hi,

I am just a newbie here but I thought I'd pass along my experience with my sump. I have a 175 gallon tank with a wet/dry system. The sump/filter setup is larger than canister filters so be prepared to have space for it. However it seems to be rather easy to work with. The sponge filters are easy to access and there is space for carbon bags (if needed, lots of different opinions on carbon out there). My favorite feature is the sump itself, which makes it real easy to add water. I just pour the water from the bucket into the sump, no lifting above the top of the tank. Otherwise I would need either my husband to lift the buckets or a ladder (which could be a disaster in waiting). However many here just get a Python so lifting buckets are a moot point.

A redtail catfish will not even get close to it's potential size in a 125--we're talking about a cat that gets up to 5 feet.

Wimples, or chinese high fin sharks, also get to be too large for a 125--3 feet is the adult size. They change shape, losing their large, sail-like dorsal fin and striking banded coloration. Nor are they tropical--cooler water would be a requirement.

A 125 seems like an enormous tank, but when dealing with fish that get bigger than 2 foot in length, it's inadequate.
 
thanks for all your help. i finnally got evrything setup. my wife and i both decided that this shoudl be a community tank, considering that she loves plants.
*So this is evrything i have:
filtration:
one ac 500
one ac 300
fishes:
15 cherry barbs
2 rosy barbs
4 clown loaches(med)
2 bala sharks( sm)
2 rainbow shark (sm)
2 angel fishes( sm)
3 sword tails
2 sunrise platy
2 striped tail molly
2 ballon mollys
also would like help on the heating? and also wheter i should add a power head and if so which one?

I'd still consider getting a larger tank for your goldfish though. You didn't mention how many you keep in your 35g but even two would be pushing it.
