We recently purchased a full grown Satanoperca Jurupari and he is turning out to be a very picky eater. I'm aware that he belongs to the group referred to as "Eartheaters" but I have rarely seen him digging through the substrate at all. He came from a tank with sand and I'm also aware that they tend to prefer a softer substrate but we have spectra stone. We were reassured by the LFS that this would not be a problem since he was full grown and would pretty much put anything in his mouth at this point.
I have tried flakes, crisps, shrimp pellets, bloodworms, algae wafers, sinking wafers, cucumbers and thawed out frozen shrimp. I have seen him go after the bloodworms once. When I feed the shrimp he will occasionally take and eat one small piece and then sometimes go for a second but will usually spit it out. This morning I saw him take one tiny shrimp pellet. He doesn't seem "hungry" and he isn't looking or acting ill. Is it possible he is just grazing all night long and isn't terribly aggressive come feeding time? He is housed in the 155 so he defintely has adequate room and he isn't living with anyone who would be bullying him although the other fish are definitely much more aggressive feeders. Should I try meatier type foods? What would you all suggest.
In case there is any confusion regarding what he is, I found this link:

Seems they are misnamed or mislabeled quite often. Some even refer to them as a Geophagus.
