I,m looking to buy a skimmer even though my local fish store has told me i dont need one . Seems like from what I read at this site I do and I trust you all alot more than I do them. Anyway I,m looking at a seaclone which they say will handle up to a 100gal tank, its 17'' high and comes with a maxi-jet 1000 pump. Will this be enough for my 20gal tank which 2 clowns 2 damsils and 4 anemonies , 10 small snails and 2 turbo snails and 1 sand sifter star.I also have 20 lbs of live rock.Yeah I know to much in the tank but I,m getting a 29 gal tank soon. anyway any advice welcome thanx, dave e

I had a SeaClone at one time and I never was able to get very good skimming with it.

Unfortunatly I have no experience other than that with hang on tank skimmers and I too am researching the possibilities.

From what I have seen it seems that Coral Life makes a pretty good one you may want to check them out and CPR backpacks seem good as well. CPR also makes a Skimmer/fuge in one but it is pricey.

If you don't want to mess around this is the HOB skimmer you get:

I've never seen a single poor review of one - ever. That's pretty amazing for a subject as touchy as skimmers to reefers.

Even though I'm pretty happy with my modded Remora, if I could turn back time I would have probably sprung for this skimmer.

The bakpak is a decent skimmer and easy to use. Basically it's good for the money. From many threads I have read, I would avoid the Seaclone or the Red Sea Prizm. I'm sure the Deltec is great, but have no experience with it.

Another good skimmer for not much money is the Coralife Super Skimmer. I have one of these and am quite impressed with the way it functions.

I like the Coralifes as well, however the bakpaks are very user friendly no brainer skimmers. Just avoid seaclones as gbolton says. I have a needle wheel modified seaclone. I think I can blow better bubbles with a straw.....
