Dear Anyone who this should concern,
I have two red bellies that are about 6-7 inches right now and I think they might be trying to pair up after talking to several well reputed pet shops. Here's what's happening; it looks like they're fighting but they don't get that carried away they just chase each other across the tank and do circles around each other. One thing I have noticed is that one is larger and thicker than the other fish however the smaller fish has MUCH larger and more prominent teeth than the larger fish. I was told to lower the water level as if makinga water change and shut the light off for a few days to see if they lay eggs for me but no luck so far. Any advice you guys have would be VERY much appreciated and I plan on posting some pics soon of my setup but here's what I have so you can get an idea for yourselves everyone ...

40 gallon reinforced shatter proof glass tank so they won't bite through it (sounds weird I know but HAS happened in the past)
Aquaclear 500 filter
Aquaclear 301 powerhead attached to a UGF
two beautiful Brazillian Red Bellies
amazon swords and Malawi driftwood to keep the water ph neutral as well as other hardy species of plants ie Vallisneria and whatnot

Any advice you guys can give is taken with much admiration because I have had Pirahnas in the past but have never seen this behaviour in them before and I know it's mating season for the little buggers right now according to what I have been told by many breeders and pet store owners and they all tell me the best way to get them to mate is to make VERY sure they are well fed and raise the water temp to about 80 and lower it by 20-30% and that should do it. Thanks for any advice you guys it is very much appreciated as I'm kinda stumped here on what the best bet I can do for them is  Thanks again for all your help everyone. I plan on getting at least a 70-80 gallon after I move for them because I know 40 gallons isn't gonna quite cut it if they do have babies or lay eggs. Thanks again for your help everyone I appreciate it alot :D Happy fishkeeping to all and best wishes as well everyone thank you all for your time :)

With Best Regards,

You would be quite lucky if your RBP's spawn. Since I don't have my book on hand, I don't have answers, but I will point you to "The Guide to Owning Piranhas" by Professor Pinkguni.
