i have a DIY c02 setup and one of the air hoses fell off and spilled yeast mix into my aquarium i have done a 70% water change but the water is still cloudy.

is it lethal to my fish, what else cna i do?

can anyone help me any suggestions???

since posting this i have had a quick look on google but not found much, what i have found though is worrying, basically all my fish are gonna be dead soon and my bacteria wont work now because of the yeast and sugar mix in the tank...can anyone confirm this? has anyone else made this mistake?

Never been there but I would move the fish and filter to another tank or rubbermaid tub for awhile while doing multiple massive water changes. Put a new filter on the tub (unless you have one that can remain on the tank) to cycle it as quickly as possible. Retest over a couple days and add the new filter and then the fish back gradually, testing the water a day after each addition. Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck! Please keep us updated.

How much did you spill into your tank? This has happend to me a few times but only a few drops went in the tank and everything is good and living and healthy.

your water will be cloudy for a few days, as the yeast will bloom from the new oxygen source and the sugar in the water..

just keep doing daily water changes, eventually the yeast will die off and be removed. your fish will not die. i've done this a couple times myself. :)

Agreed....

There is nothing toxic that SHOULD be in that mix.

if anything the sugar in the water if not at too high concentrations SHOULD give you a measurable amount of nitrATE reduction as there will be a bacterial bloom that will need it as food. Reefers use both sugar and alcohol separately to achieve this.

As long as you dont have tremendous amounts of it in your tank Im pretty sure you are safe.

At least you know what to blame the algae bloom on eh?

also, you might consider making a gas seperator to run inbetween the yeast canister and the diffuser... it has done wonders for me.

it's simple to make. I use a 16 oz tea bottle, drill 2 small holes in the cap... run a hose from the yeast canister to the cap, with enough inside the bottle to reach 2/3 the way down... then a second hose from the cap to the diffuser, with just an inch of hose into the bottle. then, fill the bottle 2/3 the way up with fresh water.
