New to the forums so please bare with me. :)
I had a Dragon Fish (Violet Goby) in my freshwater tank with my gouramis, when I came to find it's a Brakish water fish! It was sold as a freshwater fish, but I have bought a seperate tank and he's currently in freshwater untill I can convert it. I am gettimg marine salt, Sand Substrate, Hydrometer, Test kit, and all that today. But how much salt should I put in? And how often? My assumption is these little guys have been in freshwater for a while. (they look very young, 3-4 in. 1 is 4-5 in.) They are in a 10g tank right now, untill they grow, when I'll be able to upgrade to a 55g tank or so(I understand they can get to a pretty good size, 15 in. average?). I have a small school of 3 (I heard they do well in groups of 3+ or by themselves) So really here are my questions. They're in freshwater. How much salt and how often do I add?
Is a more fine sand better for them as bottom feeders/ sifters? Thank you very much to any replies, any advise is MUCH appreciated! I hope to have these guys for a long time.

oops

Sorry, I have read through thourougly trying to research through my tank, I love my fish so trying to make the best set up for them, I appologize I guess I should have checked the link that said BRAK FAQ -_- my bad.

3 of them should be very happy in a 55g. You could actually make quite a nice BW community out of that tank with mollies, maybe a scat & some other gobies or even some chromides if you can find them.

this is true, remember most BW fish are sold as FW so they'll all need to be carefully converted.

Thank you very much, I live in a small town and wally world scared off the local shop keep who had saltwater equipment... I have also desided petco is no help either in regards to brackish tanks -_o. I have found a very nice place (sadly about an hour away) locally owned that has Dragon Fish IN brackish water so I plan on going there next weekend to get the rest of the stuff I need for my set up! I plan on eventually adding a couple mollies and will be upgrading my tank within the year to maybe a 20-50gal. I do have a question though. Will 3 Dragon Gobys to well in a 50 gal tank? Do Dragons perfer to be alone or in 3? (I noticed when mine sleep they like to all sleep together side by side. Lastly how fast do they grow? (More or less) I can't seem to find anything regarding their growth rate anywhere. ANY info is Much appreciated, thank you so much.

(Not a hassle at all, I just wish the store wasn't so far away (over 100mi away) or I dould do this all so much quicker, I plan on doing everything I can to make my fish happy. i have 2 10g tanks 1 is for my gouramis, and they seem very happy
(they love being hand fed, very fun fish) and the other tank i bought to convert to brak for my dragons.)

Very nice!!! Do you happen to know of some very easy to care for tank mates for dragons? (that they won't have to compete with for food)

mollies fit the bill nicely. so do ranibows, there are several species of rainbowfish that are brackish water, make sure toi look into which ones.

Thank you, mollies are definately a big one i'mlooking forward to, i'll be sure to take a look at ranibows you mentioned too!
