Where the ducks walk on the fish, PA
My daughter just put about a teaspoon of sugar in my 5 gal hex. My male betta is in it and a couple of ramshorns. I am changing out some of the water as we speak. Anything else I can do?

YIKES!!! I've not encountered this problem--I think your doing well with the WC though. I'd do a few more each day over the next couple of days so you get all the sugar when it disolves.

how long has it been since she did this? Typically, sugar settles to the bottom of things so I would say scoop out about 50% of the TOP water column and put it in a bowl with the fish. Then change out the rest of the water and thuroughly since the substrate to get the sugar out of it. Then put the fishies and the water they're in, back into the tank and add in new fresh water.

does anyone here know exactly what problem might be caused by sugar? or are all of you just reacting to something that may not cause any trouble

She was in the process of doing it when I walked into the kitchen and saw her. I have pulled the betta to my qt tank with a filter from another tank. UGGGGG She was putting it in front of the filter flow to watch it swirl.

Mine is a knee jerk reaction--I have no idea if it is bad or not. WC's couldn't hurt.

Oh boy. I'd definitely do major water changes!

I hope it was just one.

I guess there is worse things to put in a tank.

I would do a massive water change and watch it very carefully.

after 2 quick searches all i can find is it may cause a bacterial bloom, water changes are not going to hurt but i cant find anything that says it will hurt ya
