Help! My goldfish has a white film on his scales? what is this... is my fish sick? Is hovering @ the surface a lot too.

Tell us more about your tank and set up.

Do you have a liquid test kit and can you tell us what the readings are?

How long has it been set up?

it has been a few weeks. No i do not have a test kit... wouldn't even know how to use it.
The dorsal fin is droopy on the fish too.

You should take a sample of your water to a local pet store and have them test your water for you. I wonder if your tank was cycled or not.

Any other odd behavior from the goldfish? Does the film look like a slime coating or like salt covering the body?

Sounds like ammonia/nitrite problems but usually by that point they are showing other symptoms that are bigger concerns.

Pictures would probably help.

How do I post a pic? I'm new. I noticed the what looks like a film on the scales & the droopy fin just this morning. Had them for 3 wks tomorrow. The other fish is fine. I'm thinking constipated?

What is the temperature of your tank?

What is the other fish in your tank? A goldfish or what?
