I may be new to this, but I can tell my fish isn't happy now (the snail either). So yesterday I did my 50% water change in my 1gal tank, and all went great. Good response form the fish and snail, they seemed much happier in the new water.

Well today, my 3 year old discovered the fish food and decided to feed the fish - the whole container! Yes, a whole container of fish food into a 1gal tank! :help: I decided the only thing I could really do was to take the fish out and dump the whole tank, it was just too full of stuff for any other option. So I dumped everything and had to rinse the gravel out as well. I didn't rub anything off as I was trying to disturb things as little as possible. But I had to get all the food out. So I set it back up, filled it with new water (treated the water), and then put them back in.

Ever since I put them back in, the fish and snail are staying right at the top of the water and are staying in the same spot. The fish is not moving from this particular spot at the back of the tank, like he's hiding. And they both are staying right at the water line at the top. So I know something is wrong here, I think from what I've read it has something to do with oxygen? What ever is wrong, they haven't been in the tank long (just a few hours), so I might be able to catch it in time to fix it without the guppy or snail being hurt. At least I hope so.

Any help appreciated!

I would test your water if you can, either if you have a test kit at home (or test strips are fine .. folks can be such snobs) or take a sample from your tank to a pet store and ask if they can do it - especially for ammonia or nitrite.

And, in the interest of expediance, maybe change all your water again. if you do the same thing again don't put them into untreated water.

You don't say what the type of fish and snail are... There's a decent chance that they should be in more than a gallon of water, the waste of the food would be much more concentrated in a gallon of water rather than 10 or so.

And pay attention to the temperature of the water you use to fill as well... that can be as issue, especially if you use plain old cold water.

Or, they could just be fat and happy.. I know if I ate as much as I wanted and then carried on it would be quite some time before I wanted to move again.

Any which way, I would certainly not feed for a few days, and monitor behaviour
