I need some help! I have a 55 gallon planted tank full of Rummy nose and cardinal tetras. Maybe 20 total. Yesterday I noticed that one of the Rummy nose has lost its tail and the back half of its once clear body has become cloudy. Is this tail rot? What is the best way to treat this with a planted tank? Overall the tank has been super healthy for some time and I cannot understand why this would happen. Any suggestions?

Color loss and fin loss can be a symptom of neon tetra disease as well as other bacterial diseases...Search on these and see. If it's NTD, remove the fish immediately--NTD is very contagious and there is no effective treatment.

Get him out now so that he cannot infect other fish. If you have a QT/Hospital tank, use that, if not, euthanise. It's not a pretty concept, but better to lose the one than the 20.

Once you get him into the hospital tank:
No lights, gentle water flow (like from an HOB with the water level a few centimetres below the lip), hiding spots, and water changes daily or every other day (20-30%)
Now you can diagnose him safely and treat appropriately.

Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm terrible at diagnosing disease, I've only ever seen:
Ich, and cottonmouth

I think that I've seen NTD, but that was also back when I was killing fish from an uncycled tank, so there was really too much wrong to point out one cause.
