Help! Emergency

my filter pump broke last night when I was cleaning it. The tank was infected with parasites and i was medicating it. It stunk. so I vacuumed it, cleaned everything with aquarium salt and hot water, changed 75% of water, added cycle, water conditioner, aquarium salt. The water still smells this morning, not surprisingly. How long can the fish go without the filter pump, and WHAT FILTER PUMP IS THE BEST & EASIEST TO USE? The carbon pump was the worst to put back together after cleaning. Thanks in advance for your help. :thud: Very Concerned.

Whats a filter pump? Do you mean a filter? What kind do you have now? So you cleaned the filter, and washed out the tak, sounds like you are going to have to do another cycle. What is the size of your tank, fish in it, and water levels?

What kind of parasites did you have? What was going on with your tank to have you restart it from scratch? Usually there is no need to do this but treat it and do regular water changes.
What size is your tank?

Thanks for your reply. I've been treating my fish for about a month now, on and off. My filtration system has a carbon filter, but the little thing that goes around and around in the motor broke. I bought another system today. It is an Aquaclear Mini for my 10 gal. tank. it is easy to clean. I tested the water regularly (ammonia, ph, nitrites) and normally only took out 25% of water while vacuuming. I started using aquarium salt and stopped using chemicals for the parasites (anchor worms and some that attached to the fish on the top.) i have asked for advice from the best, most reputable shop i could find. All the other places i've been gave so much conflicting directions that i got frustrated. Thanks again

My tank has platys and guppies 6 fish and 3 fries. The chemicals i was told to try killed my youngest fries. Then i was told to use aquarium salt. i've been at it for 1 year and i just find out that aquarium salt is very important for cleansing and curing etc. i found a new shop that is very reputable. i got a new filter (aquaclear mini) which is a continuous biological mechanical filtration system (on the box). The water smelled so bad despite partial water changes , so in desperation and fear for the remaining fish, i took out 75% of the water during vacuuming. The anchor worms continue returning. What do u think? Thanks
