help

Repeat the water changes every day after this but only add 4 1/2 teaspoons of salt to the new water to replace the salt taken out. And dose with the rid ich+. When the fish gets better and shows no spots for 3 days, you can return to your normal water change schedule and discontinue the salt. I hope they get better.
I'm sorry, but that is not an adequate treatment for ich. Due to the ich life cycle, it will return if it's not treated for 14 days.

Here's a wonderful article about treating ich with salt + heat, which works far better than medications:

If you read my post, I mentioned that he should continue the rid ich+ treatment. The salt is to increase slime coat production reducing chances of bacteria infecting the open sores. If ich is indeed the cause of the spots, the rid ich+ will deal with the parasite if he follows the treatment instructions and also kill any true fungus. Once the parasite is off the fish, it should form swarmers within a day or 2 at tropical fish temperatures exposing it to the medication allowing total eradication of the parasite if he continues treatment for 3 days after the last spot disappears. The water changes improve his water quality boosting immune response and that should help take out any bacteria.

Do you know that an irridesent shark can grow up to 3' (thats feet)? Of coarse in your tank it will not it will die. I had 2 myself until I came to this site and found out more about them they (LFS) may tell you "Oh it will not outgrow its surrounding", and in a way they are right...they will only grow so much on the out side but their inside keep growing until there is no more space for them and then they will die, I would definately try to take them back to the store you got them from or try to find a home with a HUGE like 300/g tank. Believe me it is hard to get rid of such a great fish, I hated parting with mine b/c they were one of my favorites I loved watching them swim around they were so active and so much fun to watch but really for thier benifit you should not keep them in a 40/g tank.

And yes not doing the water changes often enough is a problem THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT... remember you are your fishes god. Everything you do/don't do effect them. With your overstocking you would be best to do at least IMO a 30% change every couple days. If you did this I bet you would see a huge difference in your fish and your tank. Others here no much more than me and if I have advised you wrong someone will let you know, they are very good about things like that here. I am very thankful for this site, I most likely have a tank with no fish in it if it wasn't for the advise and guidence from people here!

Good luck with everything.

rrkss,
I did read your post. Please read the article. The parasite will not be erradicated in the time frame that you have indicated. Many of the parasites will still be in substrate after your day 3 of the last ich spot.

Rid ich is an unnecessary medication and will add to the stress factor. Salt and heat alone will kill the ich if used properly.

Add to the fact that we don't even know if it *is* ich, throwing in arbitrary medications may cause more problems.
