This is kind of "cheating," but you can put black pantyhose on the tube and it should blend right in.

The plants are already starting to look nicer, as the stem plants are straightening out from being shipped. Noticed a bit of crypt melt this morning:cry:

definitely going with tiger barbs, and most likely polka dot loaches....MAYBE a gourami or two, but nothing more than that.
use new pantyhose that havent been washed yet. and they'll just deteriorate on you over time anyway. i would personally go with the paint.

If you'll be adding an Eheim canister, Eheim makes their intake and output sets. I have them and although a bit pricey, they are really nice and well made. They're also dark smoked gray, so they blend right in, esp with a dark background.
