I just came back from the ocean with about 20 hermits and no idea how to feed them. Will any of the frozen foods be better than the rest? They are about a Quarter size in diameter and the bodies and legs are white. Also, will these crabs be safe enough to use as a clean-up crew in my 40 gal with a coral beauty and a clown as occupants ??? Thanks

I have 7 blue leg hermits in my tank. I was instructed that I didn't need to feed them,, they are bottom scavangers. Before I added them, my tank was out of control coverd with algae, both diatoms and hair. Only 1 week passed and they managed to reduce all rock and substrate algae by about 90% !!! My tank is so much more bright.

I'm not sure what species you caught in the ocean. I'd keep them in a seperate tank until you have them completely researched.

As long as you are in Florida, they will live in a tropical tank and will probably eat anything you care to give them. If they are from colder water they will suffer in high temperatures. Without a picture, it's hard to say what species they are, but they sound big enough to be troublemakers.
