lol, today, this one shell in my aquarium moved, becasue i didnt kno what happend to the cleaner snail in thier, and it came onto a rock, and a hermit crab was in the shell!! lol, does this happen often?
Hermits as they grow will require slightly larger empty shells to move into - so try to provide empty ones left on the sand bed and you might find you dont get eviction problems as the crabs will use these first.
JMO, but it won't matter how many shells you provide, the little buggers will still kill snails. Since I'd rather have snails, I don't have any hermits. Killing snails just to go shopping (and they often won't move into the shell they've 'evicted' a snail from) is not acceptable.
I saw my hermit kill a snail for no reason at all. The snail shell was obviously too small for the hermit but he didn't care. I didn't stop it because I didn't know how far along the hermit was. It was horrible.
The last 2 weeks I have had major problems with the crabs in my tank. There is always at least a dozen empty shells on the bottom for the crabs, but they seem to like the ocuppied ones best! I have lost probably 10 snails so far due to crabs.
