I just picked up two of the Red-Headed Severum from Jeff Rapps. They are only about 2"-3" at this point and don't look any different than an ordinary Sevrum but they grow up to be beauts!!

I also just placed an order on that beautiful severums...2 exact. :D

I think he only has 2" severums left. I can't wait to get them.

It's an undescribed species meaning that it could just be a geographical variant of an already known species or something new entirely.

The funny part is that other tropical fish have been collected from the area where the severum is found for years but somehow it escaped unnoticed. Just goes to show that sometimes looking under your own nose oft times shows you something new.

From all the fish you've ordered from Jeff, you'd be putting his kids through college!

Hahaha!!! I think we already have helped him on the college funds.

Last time, Jeff did give a short description of the tank maintence and etc. It is a lot of work. No wonder all his fish are in good health. I mean...the fish goes through all those transport and etc., they arrive healthy and very alert. My Escondido today is a little devil. I've also place a few more order on Escondido to give that little guy some playmates :D Heck! I even ordered another set of Flag Cichlids. He told me they are wild caught. Too bad that you are living in Canada, DarthV. I think you would be like all of us here...getting fish from Jeff. :D

Severum is nicknamed poor man discus, because they are cheaper and much easier to keep. But these new strain isn't going to be cheap or hardy because of their newness.

I also read from my text, "Large Cichlids (American Cichlids II) by Dr Wolfgan Staeck and Horst Linke that Severum is a surprise delayed mouth brooder. It's hard to believe there is mouthbrooder in Heros genus.

Darth has access to an importer in Montreal that has just as many neat fish as Jeff, if not more!! His name is Oliver Lucanus of Below Water. Not only does he bring in lots of cool cichlids he also deals in other fish as well as reptiles and frogs.
