Im new to the forum and have limited knowledge in all things wet,lol. I used to keep fish years ago but i wasn't very hands on with them, My Dad dealt with the set-up etc. Im keen to start again with a cold/fresh water set-up and i require info in the following areas;

Full info on set-up before introducing the animals

Info on interesting varieties of cold/fresh water fish

Info on interesting tanks and equipment

I have also learned that lobsters can be kept as pets and id like to learn all about them from people that already keep them as the info ive found online has been limited.

Cheers guys

Chris ;)

Welcome to Aquaria Central

If you look at the stickys at the top of the Freshwater Newbie area there is a virtual plethora of great info on cycling and many other FAQs. If you want to keep coldwater there is a forum for that too with great sticky info. I am not discouraging questions but loads of info is readily available here. Welcome to AQUARIA CENTRAL

Welcome to AC. Before you get any fish you will want to read this http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84598
It will give you some of the basics about "cycling" a tank. That means setting it up so that your first few fish won't die on you like they used to when I first got into the hobby. Back then people would advise you to get a few fish cheap and keep replacing them until your water was "aged". Then you could get the fish you really wanted. I think this newer approach is much better and causes less stress for the new fish keeper.

Read, read, read!

And ask lots of questions!

Im not really sure,lol. fairly big but not so big that its gonna break the bank

Well tell us a ballpark figure on what you want to spend.... You can also look on Craigslist in your area ( http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html ) and find some really good deals...This would be your cheapest route to get a bigger tank for the same price or less than a store would sell them for. Just look them over good before you buy one this way...Also you can post links to ones you find to ask us if we think it is a good deal or not.

If i could get a nice package with lots of periferals then i reckon i could strech to about £70

the only thing i'll add here is that lobsters/crawdads think fish are delicious, and if they can catch them, they will.
