Hey, Thanks for responding!
You are really sure that the filter won't be good? The only reason i say that is because it says up to 20 gals, (and its on sale!)

Some plants that i like are baby tears, compact swords, Rotala Sp. “Green”, Hydrocotyle Leucephala (Brazilian Pennytowrt) and maybe some grass?

Thanks!!

I think that filter would be just fine on a 5 gallon tank. Generally the more filtration the better. If I was using that filter I would replace the carbon with some other media such as course sponge or biological media or a combination. Some sponge is good for filtering out gunk. Biological media for processing ammonia and nitrite. The noodles are good. Save the carbon for removing meds if you ever need to.

Eco Complete is really good substrate. Forget the CO2 for the moment. Make sure you have good lighting and pick plants that are rated "easy" on the Plantgeek site. You can achieve a really beautiful tank that way.

I think i'm going to be getting a 40 watt lighting set-up, so that means 2wpg, therefore making it a medium light tank...right? That means I'm going to need co2, so i can get that. As for filters, I think I'm going to get 2 of these...

Will i need to run both of them at the same time? Or just one at a time?
Thanks!

You said your tank was 20L, not 20G. Did I misread it? 2wp gallon is sufficient light for a really nice non CO2 planted tank if you pick the right plants.

If your tank is 20 gallons, you will need 2 bags of eco complete.

Don't forget you will need a heater, too. Stealth or Jager are good brands. For a 5 gallon tank get 25 watts, for 20 gallon get 100 watts. Don't be tempted to go the cheap and nasty route on heaters. A malfunctioning heater can wipe out your whole tank faster than anything else.
