Hey Roan.....

I have 5 2inch clown loaches in a 75 and they do not bother my fish. They swim together and could care less about the other fish. My brother had a black shark when I was little and it seemed to be very docile. Maybe it was just his, but you could always give one a try.
Clown loaches go great with rainbowfish. Most of us here that have Boesemani have clowns in the same tank. We didn't plan it that way and didn't realize any of the others had them until we looked at the stock lists.

It's kinda cool, really :)

My three clowns are in with my duboulayi and parvas.

Lol....I don't think clowns would do well in a 20long ! Biggest tank I have is only 29gallons...so clown loaches aren't an option for me at this point. I suppose kuhliis or yoyo loach might work in a tank that size...or....what about some of the smaller cory cats ? I don't imagine they wouldn't bother the rainbows much or vice-versa...corys sure do a great job of keeping the substrate tidy...

Darn that keeping them with blue-eyes isn't an option....lol....cause if I ever see any of THOSE at the lfs, I'll have to get another tank to put them in ! LOLOLO !! :duh:
You only need a 10g for gertrudae, Emg! A 20g would do for furtacus!

OH! Guess what? I just bought some more gertrudae from Tanner! Hopefully I'll get some more girls this time. I want to breed them. Too bad you don't live closer to me.

I also bought a VERY VERY rare F1/w school of pagwi from him! The parents of these fish were brought back from PNG by Kent Webster with the Goo obos. They are found in the *exact* same spot, Goo obo Falls! My last tank won't just have fish from the same region, but the parents of these fish will have come from the exact same spot and were gathered and brought to the USA together!

Hope Tanner doesn't mind me linking to his picture.

I can't wait until they get here! I'm going to put them in with my duboulayi and parva juvies until the last 75g is set up in late March.

I've had all of the above with Boesemani, no problems. The only fish that they haven't gotten along with for me are gouramis.

This doesn't mean that other fish aren't bothered by them being there, just that the Boes didn't care :)

Darn it, Roan. I forgot about the pagwi! Now I want some of those!!
ROFL! They look at lot like Boesemani to me, but UncaBret, they get to 6" in size!

I'm going to get two lots from Tanner and have a school of 12-14, with Goo obos on the bottom AND red nose shrimp from Irian Jaya.

I just wish I could find a catfish that wasn't the size of a boat from that area.

Well I'm not Roan so I dont know if you want my opinion;) but I've kept those before.

In my experience, they are terribly picky about food. I will not keep them ever again because of this. Those mouths are TINY. It's like always having to deal with fry. Also, from afar, they look dull and drab. They also do not flare nearly as much as Celebese rainbowfish...and that was in a school of 7 males and 6 females.

They will be fine in the temp you listed. My tanks commonly were 83F+ with no problems at all. They're not as active as other rainbowspecies, are extremely peaceful. My adult males only ever got about 1.5" in length.

As for the pictures, Roan, are you thinking one is a female? They all look very much like boys to me. The females really don't look much like the males at all. They have an entirely different fin structure.

Not that it really matters in this topic, but I don't think I would keep gertrudae in a 10g...despite their small stature. Rainbowfish need their room.

Good luck with 'em, Emg.

EDIT: On the threadfin topic, I actually have a picture of a leucistic female I had (these were taken while still in quaratine). But besides that being neat, one who is not familiar can see the fin difference very prominently.

Good lord, of course they want your opinion. You've got experience with these, I don't. Sheesh! ;)

No idea. Never seen a female werneri. Even looked for one on the web and couldn't find one :D

Eh? Yer kidding, right? They grow to 1", if you're lucky, 1½" max. They're thinner than neon tetras, too.

You wanna know what these guys do all day? They don't school at all. They chase the females. That's it. Oh, and eat. They preen and chase the girls ALL day. Man, even Boes don't do that ALL day. They're like pre-teen boys all hepped up on hormones. They use the entire water column. The dance starts at the top, then they move to the middle and they do their actual egg laying on java moss on the bottom of the tank.

Tanner is going to try to ship me mostly females, so the activity should tone down somewhat. Right now the poor girls never get a break until the lights go out.

I've got six in my 10g now and there's room for at least 4 more. Since I'm going to breed them, I'll be separating out the two oldest females and the best looking male I have, so that'll leave about 10 in there. Plenty of room.

Seriously, a 10g is fine for a school of 10 gertrudae. I would not put furcatus in a 10g though, they get 2".

I know how big they get, but no...however, I also wouldn't keep neons in a 10g.

Well, now you've seen a pic of a female. Leucistic, but a female none-the-less. I just went through that session of photos and it seems she's the only female that shows up. She's a man's lady, it seems (every picture is of her with the boys).
