whats up people? i'm chris i have an intresting tank its a soon to be changed 20 gallon.in there i have 2 jack dempseys,2x silver dollars, 3x kissing gouramis, 1x irredessant shark,1x spotted catfish? 1x algea eater? 2x african clawed frogs and my girl friends angel fishI just bought a striped raphael catfish 2 days ago .It was fine until this morning when i noticed it was on the bottom upside down.I used the net to see if he was alive,it was but when it swam away it was doing spirals.it also does a dead mans float kinda thing.any help would be appreciated

Welcome to AC! I suggest making a thread in the FW forums about your issues, posting more info such as the current water readings and how long this tank has been established. Are all those fish in the same 20 gallon tank, or did I read the post wrong?

Number One, You have taken overstocking to a new level.

If that is indeed a 20 gallon tank, and not a 200 gallon tank, you are way way way way way way way overstocked. The only things on that list suitable for a 20 gallon are the frogs.
I suggest posting a thread in the Freshwater Newbie section, and then we can help you out, assuming you are willing to do whats best for the fish.

The good news is- you have a great excuse to go out and buy a bigger tank!

The bad news is... you don't have enough room to get a dozen oscars.



You're going to have problems until you can return some fish- or get a bigger tank. Their wastes will quickly poison each other otherwise. That and I'm sure they're rather stressed at being over-crowded.

I am not trying to be mean , BUT:

The silver dollars get as large as a coffee cup saucer, the shark will get to 36" on the average, the 2-JD's are aggressive type fish. You don't say what kind of algae eater and since most stores push common plecos as an algae eater, it needs a 75 gallon tank. They grow their entire lives and can get in excess of 20". Your stock is completely non-compatible and tank is very much undersized for the fish you have. You will need a 150gallon tank at minimum.

I suggest you return all fish until you have an adequate sized tank. Keeping them will cause deaths due to stunting and the extremely heavy bio-load in such a small tank. We can help you stock your tank with appropriate sized fish.
