Hi there. My name is Aaron and I have had fish for about 13 or 14 years (with brief periods of interuption due to moving, etc). I mostly enjoy saltwater, btu have recently begun a freshwater tank, which is the reason I am here. Now, I've had a few freshwater tanks before. I had a discus tank, I had an oscar for awhile and I've had a green terror. Very recently, however, I acquired some fish which have brought me to the internet for assistance. Without knowing exactly what they were, I purchased two juvenile barramundi -lates calcarifer. Now I am not precisely sure what to do. They are fine now and plenty happy, but they will obviously grow. I can't have a 1000+gal tank, so I'm kind of in a predicament. I don't want to just get rid of them because I feel responsible for them now, plus I really am interested in taking care of them and seeing them grow.
Now, you can feel free to call me all sort of names for buying these fish without knowing what they were. But allow me to explain how this happened. I went to a local tropic fish store looking for something that I intended to keep just one (or two or three, depending on the species) of in a 55-gallon tank. While browsing in the store, I noticed these fish that I didn't recognize, which were labeled as "sea bass". I watched them for a bit and even saw them eat a couple of feeder guppies. Not a bad fish, I thought. So I asked the pet store clerk and the owner what they knew about them. The answer was virtually nothing. They knew that they eat guppies and that the distributor had called them "sea bass". Well, being both impressed with the fish and feeling a little sorry for the unidentified little fellas, I brought two of them home.
So, now I am basically here asking you all to join me on the journey. I'd like to take all of your suggestions and insights on raising these fish as best as I can (or getting rid of them, if/when you all think that is best), and keeping them as happy and healthy as possible.
