Ever since I setup the thirty, I never see my loaches anymore:(...
I used to be able to watch them during the daytime and now they hide under the filter and various places. They used to slither around all eel-like on the plants.

I moved the same plants and decor into this tank. What gives?

I'll tell you a fun loach, the Dojo Loach. They are eel-like similar to the kuhli(only in the eel part, not coloring or anything). So they do the slithering thing, but when they do borrow down into the substrate they usually leave something exposed. My guy likes to bury everything and poke his head out. It's almost creepy at times.

Also, he's become quite fond of me, let'e me pet him.

how long ago did you set up the 30? they may just still be settling in. otherwise, you may want to add more decor and plants. . . it may be that in the bigger tank they feel more exposed, so they hide more. when fish know they have a lot of good hidey-holes and caves they feel safer and are more likely to come out.

I had 4 in a 45, and I would go a month without seeing them, and I had caves and plants, but after they were in there for a bit 2 of them would always come out at feeding time and go nuts, I say give them a bit of time and a couple more hiding places, they'll probably start coming out again.

I've always found that for some reason that in groups of 6 and above Kuhli Loaches become more 'visible'.

They will still tend to stay 'hidden' during the day but to help keep them in view I place an area to the front of the tank - right up to the glass - with small pebbles laid on top of each other to create a tunnel and overhangs where they 'hang out' and you at least see they exist!
