hiding web address

how do you hide a website address so that the website is not seen? I have seen on here where people will say see this or go here and you click on it to go to the site. why do people hide the sites? is it a rule not to advertise them?

If you click the hyperlink button, you can turn a word or phrase or even a picture into a hyperlink. Why some people do it, who knows, just personal preference I guess. I usually just post the link because I'm lazy.
