Hi.Have just done testing my water stats on the main tank and all the levels are reading good except the Calcium levels.

The reading is showing 480 :eek3: which is somewhat on the high side i know.
Any ideas on what to do to bring the level down?

Thanks.
Liz.

480 isn't anything to worry about. If your levels are above 500, the excess Calcium will most likely just precipitate out. If you are keeping corals, people will strive to keep Calcium at that level. If you want the level to come down, just wait. Coralline, clams, snails, crabs, and any hard corals will use the calcium. My Calcium is at 410ppm and I am trying to raise it a bit, so do not worry.

I wouldnt worry about it, that calcium level is excellent; many reef aquarists strive to get calcium that high.

Like mayran said, your tank inahabitants will lower the calcium.

As the others have said don't worry about it. Mine were reading 600+ in my current tank and are currently reading 500 in my new tank. Don't know what I'm doing wrong/right?? but I've never added any supplement ever!!!

Thanks for the response all.
Just that i was told somewhere that it should be about 450.
I can stop worrying now.:)

If you haven't dosed any supplements what salt brand are you using? Are you checking the specific gravity with a hydrometer of refractometer. My calcium was high and it turned out that my hydrometer was way off so the water was 1.030 specific gravity, which is related to calcium since the salt mix includes it. The refractometer is the way to go if you don't have one.

Substrate will increase calcium, especially aragonite. It will also maintain a very good ph, as it is a natural buffer. As ph tries to go down, your aragonite dissolves maintaining the equilibrium. This is good.

What sort of substrate do you have?
