Okay so I have a 10 gallon tank that has been running for a month now and I have 5 platys and 2 Panda Cory's in it. The ammonia level had been high since I set the tank up but about 2 days ago API Ammonia Test Kit I bought gave me a 0 ppm result. I also used the API 5 in 1 test strips and that tells me that my Nitrite and Nitrate levels are extreamly high. How is that possible? I thought that Nitrite and Nitrate are linked directly with Ammonia.

you shouldn't use test strips..i think that might be your problem...those are very unreliable...use the liquid, test tube, those work great.

its a bacteria..

bacteria "A" eats ammonia and makes nitrite
bacteria "B" eats nitirite and makes nitrate
plants or you take out the nitrate

so that means you have enought of one bacteria and need more of another... unfortunetly you cant go to your lfs and ask for bacteria"B" so you have to make do with the other bacteria stuff out there (i.e. stress zyme, cycle, superbac) so just do a 50% water change and add in the new water and some of your bacteria juice :]
