high nitrites

Excellent info Boo,

At least now I know what to look forward to! BTY, after my first 40% water change yesterday the Nitrites came down to .5 ppm, and following the second 40% change last night they came down to .25ppm.

I'll keep a close eye on it daily!

Thanks all!

Basically add 2-3 tablespoons of salt for a 20g or up to a 100g tank and this will do what I described above. Just remember that the only way to remove the salt is waterchanges, it does not evaporate.

Is this correct? Or maybe you meant to say something different? In this scenario, you could have 5x as much salt content in the 20 as in the 100gal.
With that much variation, I'd think either it's too strong at 20 gallons or too weak at 100 gallons. I believe I've heard the measurements to be roughly 1 tsp per 5-10 gallons....so it sounds OK for the 20 gallon, but kinda weak for the 100. My measurements may be whacky....I haven't dealt with medicines or salt in several years now (no disease problems...thank GOD!). Of coarse these measurements are provisional to the species. Some fish are sensitive to salt content (some plecos and scaleless fish).
