High phosphates?

Hi still cycling my tank, took another sample of water to my LFS, and whilst he is overall happy with my water quality, he was concerned about high phosphates in the water. The tank has no fish in and all other water parameters seem are fine(PH, nitrate etc etc) could it be simply a case of having the light on too long? (currently around 12hrs), I've also noticed a slight increase in algae in the tank.

Phosphate can't come from too much light. The possibilities include:
-food
-leaching from the live rock
-leaching from carbon
-your water source

How much phosphate have you got?

The phosphate level is 2, my water is RO salt water (from my LFS) and the only food in the tank is some micro vert for a green xenia {sp}. I have bought some elimi-phos to try and control the problem before it gets out of hand. But was just wondering what may of caused this to happen?

(also got some turbo snails and a candy shrimp which came in my LR)

2 ppm? Wow! Are you sure your test kit is OK? Even in tanks where I have fed heavily I have not seen levels like that.

As I alluded to above, some live rock (including some batches of rock from the gulf) have been known to leach PO4, as do some brands of activated carbon.
