"High Quality" fish food

Look into OSI, HBH, New Life Spectrum, Hikari. Try to see their ingredients first, the list works like this, in order you read it, it has the most of, so if you see fish meal as the first ingredient, then that means that is the most abundant in the food. The farther down the list you see it, the better (least amount). I cannot find any fish food as of yet that is on the level Omega One is.
 
i dont see omega one often. whats the protein numbers for their foods? i always use hikari and it has good protein levels even though its fish meal. i guess its better than corn meal like some of the other brands. most of my fish are predators so they all get frozen fish, shrimp, clams etc and i always keep crickets and worms and feeders available thats what they mostly get, i only use pellets when im feeling lazy or theres someone taking care of them for me.

kens fish is good too i dont order too much from them because my arowana dosent eat anything but hikari sticks. he wont even touch any of their other stuff.
 
Omega One is the staple for all my tanks. They now also have bloodworms, shrimp treats, and tubifex squares. Also, the veggie rounds are the best I've seen. They are much greener than any of the others, and also contain kelp along with the spirulina for more variety.
 
I honestly haven't spent a lot of time thinking about fish food. I've got Tetramin and Tetra crisps, Wardleys algae tabs, Aquarian shrimp pellets, Hikari freezedried blood worms. But I do a lot of frozen food... blood worms, tubifex, brine shrimp... zucchini for the algae eaters, green peas, sometimes a tiny bit of the liver cat food that the box turtles like. They certainly eat a lot better than fish that I have kept in the past.

Next time I am at the fish store, I will read the labels more closely. Thanks for the info.
 
Just an afterthought. I know the Omega One can be hard to find. I order mine from The Fish Store. When I first started using Omega One, I couldn't find it locally. Now that I can find some of the varieties of Omega One at Petsmart and a local pet store, I still order from The Fish Store. Even with shipping, he's cheaper, and carries every item Omega One makes. ;)
 
How much of a difference does it really make? I feed my fish Nutrafin, and OSI, both of which have fish meal as the primary ingeredent. After reading this article, im about ready to go out and get some Omega one food right now.
 
man i said grand omega earlier i ment grand sumo. heres some info from their site

I guess it's all in what you want out of the hobby. It's like buying dog food. Some folks buy Old Roy from WalMart which is certainly fine and it satisfies the dog's basic nutritional needs. Others buy Iams, Nutro, or Eukaneuba because they want more than just basic nutrition for their pets. I think we all started in this hobby thinking all fish food was just fish food. Fish meal is usually a binder which doesn't provide any nutritional value to the food, but is used to hold everthing together. I would rather feed my fish more of the good stuff like whole salmon, krill, etc.
