I would like to get a few hillstream loaches of gastromyzon and maybe a few of Homaloptera. I would like this tank with this lighting with an aquaclear 20 or 30 and maybe a small powerhead. My only question is what color of the lighting? Any comments?

I'm sure you could get almost any color, bright LED plant light and be just fine. After all, don't you just want it to grow algae?

In my hillstream/goby tank I'm using normal-output fluorescent t-8 lamps, 6500K color temp. The plants (anubias, java moss, crypts, bolbitis) do well and the hardscape and anubias leaves get a nice dusting of green and red algae for the fish to snack on.

Ok I will look into it. What can I use to cover the tank? Could I cut the acrylic/glass myself?

Your second link didn't work for me, a nano tank is usually too small for enough current for hillys without causing a whirlpool. Will you have substrate?

I was thinking large gravel with river rocks. I agree with you on the nano tank but it is three feet long, but is only twelve gallon the dimensions are 35.5 long, 8ish wide and 9.5 tall
