Hillstream tank

Nice tank. One of the best i have see that incorporates plants with a hillstream set up. I have the so called "larger" rainbow Stiphodon. But not the small one. I'm also trying to get some new gastromyzons. Working on getting some gastromyzon Sp. Sk02. By the way. I'm the guy you sold a pair of Stiphodon percnopterygionus last year.( i live in SoCal) Just to let you know the pair are doing real well.

Thank you. Yea, I had planned on adding more rocks but the sewellias seem to like the plants as they tend to stay on the plant leaves most of the time. The gastromyzons prefer the rocks and are territorial towards the sewellias (except the male) so the plants help the sewellias escape the gastromyzons when they want to. I am not sure why the larger rainbow stiphodons are easier to find but most likely, they will be rarely sold in the future soon. Have you checked out Odyssey's thread on loaches.com? He posted new photos of stiphodons I have never seen before. Very interesting.

I am quite jealous of European loach owners as they tend to get the new gastromyzons we can't find here. I believe there is a report that someone has bred gastromyzon lepidogaster but not sure. I plan to go check out the article at my LFS as they sell the Amazonas magazine to see if this is true as I tried searching online for it but no luck. G. sp. SK02 is one of the gastromyzons I have been looking for too but no importer has it on their lists so far. I don't really want to buy a batch of mixed "river loach" to get it so I am waiting for my LFS to get in their batches of "river loaches" to pick the ones I want.

Glad the pair is doing well in your tank:).

Well after having a long conversation with my parents about the tank, I will be posting it for sale. My parents told me to try and find someone to buy the tank first or they can try to care after the tank once I leave. I am going to post it as a whole setup to see if anyone local may want it. I will have to move it out of my room when I leave as my younger sibling is taking over my room. I'll miss the fish but cannot do anything about it unless I find a very good job here which I doubt is going to happen. It's either sell everything, down size the tank into a 20 high tank, or take the chance and let my parents care after the 40g if they can.

The fish are doing great though. I'll probably clean out the canisters on Friday to see if there are any fry. The parents have stopped spawning so may be no fry. Not much of an update as school is taking up most of my time right now.

I'm sorry you have to give up your tank, Sho. You did know that was a possibility with your work overseas plan but still sad. Is your mom still going to have killies? One tank might be plenty for her.

She has some killies right now but they're near the end of their lives as they are annuals and have shorter life spans. I don't want too much work for her or my father so I am going to sell it to see if anyone local will take it. If no one buys the whole setup before mid-March then I will most likely sell the fish online as the inquiries so far are about the tank itself and not the fish.

What all types of plants might you have in there? I recently upgraded my river tank to a 40B and looking to add some more plants to it as well. Right now I have some Anubias, Crypts and Java Moss (which I'm looking to remove now). Would like to add some more varities but unsure of what would do well with the water current.

Sora, if you end up having to sell the fish, let me know. I would likely be interested in your loaches and your gobies.

James 0816, some small swords will work well in the calm areas of your tank (like in the corners) and java fern works quite well also. Depending on how your tank is set up, you may even be successful with some hardier stem plants like I have been.

I have crypt wendtii, java ferns, and anubias in the tank. I use to have amazon swords and vallisneria but they got too tall but did well also in the tank. I tried java moss too but hair algae grew on it most of the time.

I'll most likely sell them on here before trying Aquabid or something as I want them to go to a good home. No one local seems to want the fish as they are more into larger fish.

The sewellia lineolata group is spawning again. I think it is because of the warm weather I've been having in Ca. They will most likely be the last fish group to go.

So far the kuhli loaches and panda garras are going to a new home on Tuesday. Not sure about the others plus I have to buy some more shipping supplies as I am going to individually bag every fish. I'll probably have enough for one more box/shipment. I don't know where the assassin snails are in the substrate so I am not even going to bother until I actually take down the tank. Most of my anubias plants are growing new leaves as they are taking root on the rocks.

What kind of gobies do you have? I have a 40gal high flow tank with 2 pairs of stiphodon percs. Did you find a home for the fish?
