Thanks for all the input guys...Im 99.9% sure that it is a Chiton...after roaming all over the net the past couple of days Im sure that he is a Cryptoplax striata...
and just for the record, they can bury (bed) themselves...they do this mainly if they are caught short and need to keep moist eg: when the tide goes out, but they will also do it if they are caught out in the open when the lights come on...
