Ok, so I tried the gravel vac for the whole tank this time. But I think a lot of stuff got through the filter. I will add the foam to the filter. I am doing another gravel vac and wc tomorrow when I get a square bin I can hook the filter to without worrying it will fall off. I can check the water to see what is getting through as well. Sucking it up isnt going to do any good if the filter returns it to the water.

I've done what you're trying to achieve here for years with a 250 hot magnum.They used to have the stuff as an option with the 250's. But I think they quit selling them a few years ago. It was just a small elbow adapter and a regular syphon with a couple of feet of hose. You'd just remove the strainer from the intake. Add the adapter with the hose and turn it on, and clean until you couldn't stand to clean any more.Then do a water change.
