Hey gang, I'm no filter genius so i need some help! I've had an aqua clear in my 55g for over a year now - great fliter but i'm getting tired of the ridiculous current this thing throws off - it really thrashes the plants about and i think the additional oxygen it stirs up in the process contributes to poor plant quality near the filter - i've switched the knob on the top which is suppossed to give off a more gentle current but it isn't much of a difference - are there other types of filters that won't throw off so much current? I've never used a canister filter but am considering this if it's a viable option - can someone fill me in?

Thanks!!!

My HOB filter gives off a large current when I let the water level get lower than usual. If I keep the water level up to the top, the current is a lot less. How far from the top of the tank is your level?
