I recently set-up my sump with a HOB Overflow box w/ u-tube. Of course it made a horribly loud gargle and/or sucking sound. I was not happy to find that I needed to purchase more material to customize the $50.00 overflow. Mine already had a small piece of PVC on the bulkhead that would "hold" the prefilter.
I found that it if I squeezed the top of the prefilter together the noise would stop. So I used a rubberband to squeeze the prefilter like I was with my hand. This took about 10 minutes to perfect, but now it is totally silent. There is no restiction in flow. Just thought I would let every one know.
