I have a container that I will be using to hold some fish during a house move. I have a spare filter and it is a skilter filter that is in the link below. The water will be about 4-5 inches deep and there is no way to attach it to the side as you would with an actual tank. My question is: will this filter be fine sitting in about 5 inches of water with the lower half submerged? I am asking because I do not want to end up messing anything up electrical wise. I turned it on and it seemed fine but I do not want to leave it unattended while away.
Heres the link for the filter:

Yea that is true. I did turn it on for about 15 minutes while I was in the room and it seemed fine. I am just afraid to leave it turned on whenever I leave my house. I don't want a fire.

Yea I will look into getting one. It will only be temporary and I had the extra filter laying around so I thought I would give it a shot.

If it is for only an hour or two, get an air pump and a couple of air stones and stuff them in there. That takes care of the oxygenation requirement.

For the ammonia produced, toss in a decent chunk of Prime, or any other water conditioner that can deal with Chloramine. That will render the ammonia non-toxic (technically still toxic, but only at very high levels).
Add a bit more every hour or so just in case.

That should do it.
They won't be in there long enough for any bacteria to grow and make nitrite, so you shouldn't have to worry about it.

You could always get a rubbermaid tub and put a full size filter on it, too.

I only had small fish when i moved, so i just used a 5g bucket.

Thanks for the tips. I cannot put it up on a bowl because the intake tube is shorter than the bottom of the filter itself. If I placed it out of the water on a rock or bowl the intake tube would not reach the water. I do have an extra air pump and air stone I will place into the container.
