I have had both, but prefer my 350 magnum canister. I have it running on my 100 gal. long, and it runs like a champ. It is about 15 yrs. old, and the only things I have had to replace on it are the o rings. Can't complain about that!:thm:

Canisters..all the way...

I use both canister and H.O.B. filters on my tanks n fact they all have sponge filters in them also so each tank has three fillters generaly a canister at one end and the HOB at the other end and a sponge running in case i need it for a Q tank or to help seed a new tank-Anne

LOL

I am never even going to move homes again JUST so I don't have to deal with draining a tank and moving fish. Let alone drain it to move it 5"s, lol.

I just hope we never want new Pergo or wood floors. That will be a nightmare, 2 tanks to move......

I hear ya Bud. i have a 75 and a 55 and the wife wants to get rid of the carpet and get new flooring. i'm dreading the day

oh yeah i have a mag 350 and an emperor 400 on the 75 and a penquin 350 and a large whisper hob on the 55

I like HOB's for a nice lower maintenance lightly stocked low tech no co2 tank. I love that they take like 2 seconds to clean and are WAY cheaper compared to canisters. The canisters have way more room for media... but I find I don't rinse them out nearly as often as I probably should, cause it's a bit of a pita. I sometimes have trouble getting the top off, and almost always get a bunch of water on the floor. On my 55 cichlid tank I have an aquaclear hob on one end, and a fluval 404 on the other. On my 65, I just have a fluval 305, as the design of the tank doesn't allow for a hob. If it did, I probably would have one on there.

I have only ever used hob but that is because I never had extra cash for a canister. I would like to run a canister on my 55 along with a hob, they both have there ups and downs. I like the idea of canister only in tanks with big cichilids, especially if you run an inline heater. less crap cramping the room in your tank and less for them to tear up.
