Hi. Im looking for general advice please. I have 2 pangasius catfish which ive not had problems with at all over the last 2 years. However yesturday I noticed on the side of one a a white marked area. At 1st glance it looked like a fungus patch but after managing to get a good look it is actualy a hole right through the body!!! When he goes up to gulp air, bubbles pass right through and out it. I havent a clue what has happened, there are no sharp objects in there and this one doesnt skit out, actualy a real chilled fish. The other one is and has always been nervous, infact a nervous wreck. Hides away all day. You have to sit with room lights off to see it swim around. I wasnt sure if maybe this one had freaked out and rammed into side of the other one causing a wound?

The wounded fish is still happy in itself but I am concerned. Should I be treating the fish for its wound?? How quick do they heal? The wound is just behind the Gill.

Any advice much appreciated.

It doesnt matter now. He died last night :( Wasnt expecting that as he was still active and feeding and seemed ok. Then all of a sudden he went into a cave, flipped over and died!! At 1st I thought he was stressed as they can do that and play dead but I soon realised he passed on :(

Yeh it does :( I was really fond of him (as all my fish)

The other Pangasius isnt the same now either. I think that ones missing him as she is just sitting at the bottom quite depressed. Think she is lonely :(

thats sad too. it happended to one of my rays the male died and the female went in a huff for a few weeks and was off food for a couple of days.

Take a close look at the pectorals on your other Shark - they are like most every other catfish with their spiny fins. There's a minute possibility that in a spaz one speared the other. Unlikely but it's possible and once there was a wound, then it would be the opening for the infection that lead to the abscess that opened up.

Right now one of mine has a tragic wound on one of his pectorals from a net. He's doing fine, but it's ugly with the ball of white skin that's been pushed back over the bone. Crazy thing is, it actually made a crying sound when I was ripping it out of the net as gingerly as my big clumsy hands could.
