Ever wake up in the middle of the night and hear a strange flopping sound? Turn on the light and you see one of your Amano shrimps jumping around on your table...This has happened to me many times.
I had a lid on my 15 gallon planted tank that covered all but a gap of two inches and somehow these little buggers manage to jump out! Or do they crawl?
At first I had these shrimp living in my tank fr a long time, but lately whenever I get new ones from the lfs they seem to disappear within a couple days....later I find them dried up in the corner of my room where they managed to crawl to!

Anybody else have these problems?

A moment of silence for the dehydrated shrimp......:sad

I have read a little bit on the Amano shrimp and yes, they can crawl out of the aquarium.

Ooooh....so the little buggers crawled out...

How can I prevent that?
With a lid that covers the entire top of the aquarium?

Strange... I've keep amano shrimp for quite awhile, and none of them have ever tried to escape from my tanks... there was a time when I was temporarly keeping a couple dozen of them in a 15 gallon tank with an open top, and none of them ever attempted to escape. I've never seen any shrimp bodies around my 70 gallon tank neither... and thats inhabited by a couple of angelfish and a few tetras and smaller loaches.

Try stuffing pieces of sponge in the holes in the lid of your tank... a cheap and effective way of preventing shrimp from jumping/crawling out.

to prevent my crays from escaping i just tape saran wrap around the top with clear tape.

I've never had any of these shrimp, but I was reading up on the at Floridadriftwood.com, and they state very clearly that these shrimp unlike most will crawl out and go for a walk. sponge or saran wrap will work, so will fiberglass window screen taped down or super glued where possible.

well i know fish jump if the water is gross, mabey they are just not happy in there

I think that my water is probably a good deal more a cidic then the water at my lfs where I got the shrimp...

My waterr is around 7.5pH and at the store they use San Diego tap water which is probably more alkaline and harder. I use R.O.

Anybody know about amano shrimp water preferences of the top of there heads?
