Hello Everyone, I'm new to Aquaria Central. And I am getting back into Saltwater after an 8 year layoff. I an putting together a 135 Reef System and decided I would build the Stand and Hood myself, since the costs can get out of control for some of this stuff. Anyway I wanted to attach a picture and see what everyone thought. I built the stand out of 2X4's then planked it with Poplar Wood and stained it Walnut. I also built the Doors myself. I am still waiting for the door handles to come in from Lowes. All in All the cost for the entire stand was under $225.00. I am by no mean a carpenter, in fact I'm an IT Manager and if I can build a stand from wood, I think just about anyone can.
I noticed on an early thread that someone was doing something similar, I wanted to say that I pre cut the wood using an excel spreadsheet to calculate the size each cut of wood that would be needed to make (2) 14.5" openings and an 18" opening. This saved me on buying extra wood. I built the doors out of 1/2" Birch Plywood.
