I just finished making a D.I.Y hood and it looks great and it wasn't too hard. It is built out of pine, same as the stand, and I put vanish on both of them so they look like jarrah. It isn't heavy either, I thought it was going to be heavy, but 1 person can easily lift it. I also added a fan to it, but my question is if the flourecent lighting that I have in there are going to get effected if any water from evaporation gets of them?? I don't have lids on at the moment.

Yes, the lights and the wood could be affected. You need to get some glass tops ASAP.
