Meet my new lil friends - a pair of the cutest lil African Mudskippers I have ever seen! :)

I finally got around to offloading some of my home bred gourami, molly, platy & swordtail stock at the LFS so I came home with 2 more 20G tanks, 50 lb bag of gravel and my 2 new friends!

Feels good to come home with a whole bunch of new things and not having to feel guilty about spending money! :headbang2:

I got the last 2! sowwy! :P

What defines them as african mudskippers?

They're bred/captured locally - since I'm in Africa that makes them African? lol

Seriously now I've been researching their needs for the last 6 to 8 months - heres a pretty good link with more info and some gr8 photos...

The only reason I asked is because when trying to find info, I couldn't even find a scientific name for an "african mudskipper", but they look extremely similar to my mudskipper, which is an Atlantic Mudskipper, Periophthalmus barbarus.

There's not much concrete info available on them online and very little visible difference between species. The LFS out here are notoriously clueless when it comes to scientific names etc so they are not a reliable source of info either.

From what I can gather from this article though Atlantic and African are one and the same and originate from the west coast of Africa (Atlantic side). It's probably a case of same face, different common name! :)

Another clear sign - my skippers had a $4.00 price tag whereas most imported fish sell for $10 upwards.
