I took my son to school late yesterday (dentist appointment) and when I got to school , my son's teacher had a LFS there explaining to the class how to set up the aquarium that they are going to have at school. I just about fell over at the site because it was the same LFS that told me I could set up my SW tank and put fish in it the next day. I lost over $100.00 worth of fish because of that mistake. So yesterday, I printed off an information sheet on how to cycle a tank. I told her that this is what the LFS's don't tell you about. She did not even know what I was talking about. The LFS did not even tell her that you would need a heater or need to do water changes. I told her I could help her if she wanted to get it started and told her I would help her in anyway I could. She was very appreciative of the advice and thanked me because she was going to go and get some fish soon. I told her the LFS is only after your money and really don't care if you lose your fish or not. I said the best advice is the forums on the internet and reading everything you can get your hands on. :read:

You might also specify that you're only talking about that paticular fish store.
A lot of good stores catch a lot of crap because of the bad ones.

Kudos on saving the fishes though:D

yeah, i do stuff like that all the time, but apparently whenever I talk about it, uncabret gets all sarcastic on me....

Not the LFS where I live. I told her that they are pretty good at most things but not about telling the customer little details that will save them down the road. They sure didn't mind selling me fish they knew would die the next day. I was not bad mouthing them or anything, I just told her that they don't tell you how to properly cycle a tank before adding fish.
