Ummm... I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My Hornwort has started growing REALLY FAST!! It started out as a plant about eight inches tall, but now has doubled in size and is stretching halfway across my ten gallon. And this has happened in less than A WEEK!
Any suggestions on how to deal with this? because I dont want this plant dominating my aquarium.

Mine did that but now it's about dead.

I can never get it to last long.

I suggest pruning it back by cutting off branches with growing nodes on them.

You can let these nodes float and they will form more plants.

If the hornwort grows like mad (which is not unusual) and then dies, it burned up some nutrient. In my experience, adding hornwort to an old, neglected tank with tons of crud and nutrients and a sliver of light, it's turns into the salad that ate Detriot. I wouldn't recommend mimicking that setup to *make* it grow, lol. Test your iron and nitrate. If they are low, add them slowly (iron via stuff at lfs, nitrate ***very carefully and super-slow**** via Green-Light Stump Remover).

To keep hornwort in check, just yank some out every week or so. Great at removing excess nitrates from the water.

FYI, "wort" is an old English word for "plant".

Yep...I had to throw it away by the handfuls. Finally got it down to a manageable amount that I still ahve to prune weekly.

The only thing that does well in my 20 gallon in front of the windows is Java Fern.

Everything else eventually dies and rots away.

Not my java fern but everything else.

Used to use plant fertilizers but not regularly.

Just dug up this/my old post. I have over 4wpg(46 watts of light on the 10g, and no CO2) I probably will end up just pruning it massively seeing as it takes up over half of the tank right now. I want it to kinda grow out sideways, instead of turning into a 5ft strand like it is now lolz.
